Yesterday my eggs were harvested. I took Valium before I left to go to the surgical suite. Once there, Jim and I were led to separate areas for our gamete collection. I emptied my bladder, changed into a hospital gown, and was led to the surgical area. They started an IV, then I was out until it was all over and it was time to leave. I changed back into my street clothes with a little help from Jim. He brought the car around to the side entrance. I got in and he drove me home. I went back to sleep for several hours. Jim went to the pharmacy and filled my Percoset prescription, but I had very little discomfort following the procedure.
This morning the doctor's office called and let us know that they had collected seven eggs from me, of which four had been able to be fertilized into embryos. About 50% success rate in fertilization is normal, so this is good news. Today I started a new drug protocol to prepare for implantation, including daily injections of progesterone, daily use of progesterone cream, prednisone for 5 days and estrogen patches every other day, in addition to continuing antibiotics. I'm scheduled for embryo transfer Tuesday morning.
