Viewing and Geotagging Flickr Photos using Yuan.cc

Unfortunately, Geobloggers is no longer available as a geotagging and viewing service. So, my previous instructions on how to view my photographs mapped don't work any more. I'm now using Yuan.cc instead. The primary disadvantage of using this site is that it is optimized for the Firefox browser. I recommend following the instructions below using the Firefox browser, especially when adding geotags to photographs.

YuanCC

Here are instructions for viewing my public geotagged photographs:
  1. Go to http://maps.Yuan.cc.
  2. Select Flickr from the drop down list of services in the upper right hand corner of the web page.
  3. Verify that geotagged is entered and selected as a Filter tag.
  4. Enter janine-white in the text field completing the Flickr photos link.
  5. Click the Search button or select Select Photostream in the Photostream drop down list.
  6. Clicking on a photo in the Photostream will display a thumbnail below the Photostream and display a marker on the map.
  7. Double clicking on the map near a marker will center the map at that spot and zoom the map in a level.

To geotag photos:

  1. Go to http://maps.Yuan.cc.
  2. Click the Login link.
  3. Click the authenticate via Flickr link. Follow the instructions to allow the site to access your photographs if needed.
  4. Verify that the Flickr photos link is accurate for your account.
  5. Select None for for Filter tags.
  6. Select a photo from the photostream that you want to tag.
  7. Find the location where the photo was taken by searching for the location or navigating to the location. Help for using the map is available at Google Maps.
  8. Click the Save Location button. If you save multiple times, you will need to go to the photographs in Flickr and delete the older location tags.

Poozer Memorial

Poozer

We got Poozer from the humane society. We went to visit looking for a puppy and ended up bringing Poozer home instead. Poozer & KittensWe went in to visit the cats and Poozer reached through the bars of his cage and grabbed Jim. We couldn't resist bringing him home after he picked us. Poozer was the first pet that we got together. When we brought Poozer home, my other two cats, Pumpkin and Sabrina, didn't like having another cat in the house, but they eventually made peace. Poozer was very sweet and energetic. He is the only cat that we were unable to train to only use scratching posts, so we had him declawed after a few months of shredded furniture. When we brought home Vixen and Zeus, he quickly made friends with them. Poozer would eat with them and, after he had eventually caught on, he taught them how to use a scratching post. Poozer continued to be loving with us, enjoying nuzzling at every opportunity. Poozer NursingHe especially liked to suckle Jim, waiting patiently by his side until Jim petted him, giving him the signal to snuggle in.

This morning after I came out of the shower and started getting dressed, I heard Poozer meowing at the foot of the bed. At first I thought that he was just meowing at a bug or for attention, but when I went over to pet him I noticed that his back legs were paralyzed and he had a bit of blood on his nose. I thought that maybe he had jumped or fallen off the bed badly and broken his back. I called Jim in and we took Poozer to the First Regional Animal Hospital. A triage nurse came out right away and took Poozer back to be seen by a doctor. PoozerAs we expected, it was not good news. Poozer had thrown a blood clot which was very painful because it was blocking blood flow to his legs. The prognosis was poor. At best, he would need 36 hours in the emergency room followed by weeks restricted to a crate and continuing medication for a probable underlying heart condition. At worst, he could throw another blot clot at any time and die, regardless of treatment. We made the difficult decision to not seek aggressive treatment for Poozer and have him euthanized. We chose a special cremation and will be receiving a marble urn with Poozer's remains in several weeks. We love Poozer and will miss him.

Photography Projects

I finished processing the best of the photographs from James and Amandah's wedding over the July 4th holiday. Now, I have two new projects. I'm still working my way through the photos I took in Idaho, including my sister-in-law's wedding. I seem to be getting better at stock photography. Hoover Dam TowerI've found that I want to process a higher percentage of my photographs and I can get a higher percentage of my photographs accepted at iStockPhoto. All of the photos I've uploaded from around the Hoover Dam area are already available.

I'm also working on a new project with a friend of mine who is transgendered. I am working with her to document her transformation over the next year from male to female. She has come out in her private life, but not in her work life, so I can't share those photographs publicly, yet. She is meeting with her surgeon at the end of August and plans to go full time as a woman after that meeting, then I'll be able to start publishing those photos publicly.

On July 4th I tried to take pictures of fireworks, but unfortunately, it didn't work out. We went to a barbecue at my father-in-law's which was a lot of fun, but we were late getting back to the East side of the valley. I tried to get in to a local event, but it was full. I ended up parking precariously along Queen Creek road behind the Chandler airport. I could see three different fireworks displays around the city from there, which was exciting, but they were too far away and the city lights interfered with proper exposure because they were low to the ground from that angle, so I couldn't get good photographs. I watched for a few minutes, then left when it started raining because it would have been much more dangerous once all of the cars that lined the road were leaving.

I had a back spasm earlier this week that is still bothering me, so I haven't been carrying my camera everywhere, like I usually do. The trusty weight of my camera is not in my purse. I feel like something is missing. Hopefully by next week my back will be feeling better and I will be back to taking pictures.
